The Midnight Walk Wiki
The sun is out, the clay is real, and the walk is six chapters: five tales plus the climb up Moon Mountain. This page is the map. The deep notes live one click out.
Source notes
The official description promises five tales; walkthroughs divide the route into six chapters including Moon Mountain. This wiki uses that six-chapter structure, with story interpretation separated from store facts.
The world you walk
Everything on screen started as a physical model. MoonHood scanned more than 700 clay pieces and animated them in Unreal Engine 5 so the motion still looks like stop-motion. The sun has gone out. People in this dark have been killing each other over fire. Things crawl out of the shadow.
You are the Burnt One. You wake broken, deaf, and blind. Potboy is the lantern you escort. Its flame is both the light you need and the thing monsters want to swallow. The destination the soothsayers name is Moon Mountain, where the sun might be lit again.
Six chapters, not five
The Burnt One, The Loathsome Molgrim, Coalhaven, The Craftsman’s Heart, The Dark, then Moon Mountain. After chapter 1, Housy — a walking house — becomes the cupboard where collectibles are counted. There is no combat system. You light candles, sneak, hide in wardrobes, close your eyes to listen, and later aim a Matchlock to light fuses from a distance.
Gameplay and trailers
One loop runs through all six tales: carry the flame, light candles to open the way, and keep out of sight. There is no combat. You sneak, hide in wardrobes, close your eyes to listen for what is moving, and later use the Matchlock to light fuses from a distance. Between chapters, Housy the walking house is the hub where the collectibles you missed are counted.
A story run is short: published estimates put the whole walk at four to six hours. Three official videos are embedded below — the launch trailer for the May 2025 PS5, PC, and VR release, the Switch 2 trailer for the March 2026 port, and the September 2024 announcement trailer for comparison.
Who made it
MoonHood is a Swedish studio formed by people who had worked at Zoink (Lost in Random, Fe, Ghost Giant). Fast Travel Games, in Stockholm, publishes. Directors Klaus Lyngeled and Olov Redmalm lead the credits Wikipedia lists, with Joel Bille on the score. The Game Awards 2025 gave it Best VR/AR. The Steam Awards 2025 gave it VR Game of the Year. A film and TV adaptation was announced on 11 June 2025 with Story Kitchen. No release date exists for that.
Common questions
How many chapters are there?
Six. Five tales plus the Moon Mountain finale. Press copy that says “five tales” is not counting the last chapter.
Is there fighting?
No combat system. Threats are escaped, hidden from, or stunned. You do not kill Molgrim or the Grinner.
Where is the bestiary?
There is no in-game codex. Named threats are collected on the monsters page from walkthrough notes.
