Chapter 1: The Burnt One
You start broken. A stranger gives you eyes, then ears. The rest of the chapter is learning that fire is a tool with a timer, and that the thing chasing you cannot be killed.
Source notes
The opening teaches closed-eye listening, timed flames, and hiding rather than fighting. Button prompts vary with the controller layout; use the in-game prompt when a published guide gives conflicting bindings.

The path
You wake as the Burnt One, blind and deaf. The stranger returns your eyes, then your ears. Close your eyes and listen for the key: it is in the bottom drawer of the wooden cabinet on the right. Use it on the door that glows blue.
Matches burn down. Use them on candles and on the ruins. A door wants three triangle candles. A later door wants the hat candles: four, then three. Light Potboy (that pop is the Fire Walk trophy), feed the flame coal twice, and send Potboy through the pipe to drop the bridge. Two pressure plates open the next door.
When the hunter comes, use wardrobes and the gap in the wall. You cannot kill it. The tunnel collapse at the end traps it. Spend a minute resting in darkness to unlock Shadow Work. Finishing the chapter is The Tale Of The Burnt One.
Eleven things to pick up
Four clay figurines: The Ragdoll, The Daughter, The Soothsayers, and Body. Three shellphones. Three gramophone discs: The Soulfisher’s Secret, Mitt Happyplace nar varlden star i brand, and Koket. One Story of the Murkle page. The full cabinet is on the collectibles checklist. Death here sends you to a checkpoint, not to a new game.
Common questions
Where is the first key?
Bottom drawer of the wooden cabinet on the right of the blue door. Find it by closing your eyes and listening.
How do you light Potboy?
Feed the flame and complete the wake-up the chapter asks for. That moment is the Fire Walk trophy.
Can the hunter kill your run?
It can catch you. You respawn at a checkpoint. The chapter ends by trapping it, not by fighting it.
