Switch 2 vs PS5
Both cost $29.99 at the standard price I checked. The game’s story is not cut on either one, as far as the publishers have said. The split is VR, trophies, and where you sit.
Source notes
The purchase comparison uses documented platform differences: handheld play, optional PS VR2, and the PlayStation trophy list. It does not imply a matching laboratory performance test.
The differences that are real
Price: both $29.99 standard on 22 October 2026. PS5 had a $13.49 sale ending that morning UTC. Switch 2 had a $14.99 sale ending 1 November 2026 at 06:59 UTC. Sales expire. The standard price is the number to remember.
PS5 launched 8 May 2025 and can use PS VR2. It has 16 trophies. Switch 2 launched 26 March 2026, has no VR, and has no PlayStation trophy list. Download size on Nintendo is 14.7 GB. Steam’s PC install is 18 GB; I am not going to pretend I saw a PS5 gigabyte figure I did not write down.
- Want a headset or a platinum: PS5.
- Want the game on a commute: Switch 2.
- Want both: they are the same $29.99, so you are paying for the second screen, not for extra story.
Performance, carefully
Reviewers have said Switch 2 drops frames and that handheld is not a locked 60. Nintendo World Report still scored that version 8.5/10. I do not have a matching PS5 frame study in the sources, so I will not declare PS5 “locked” either. The honest line is: portable has more reported hitches; the couch version is the one people buy when they care about trophies and VR.
Languages differ. Switch 2’s Nintendo list includes Brazilian Portuguese. The PS5 screen-language list I recorded does not. Neither list includes Russian. See languages.

Links for both are on download. If the question is really “do I need the headset that came with my PS5,” the answer is no, and it is written out on the VR page.
Common questions
Which is cheaper?

Is the Switch 2 version missing story?
No publisher note I found says chapters were cut. The gaps are VR, trophies, and reported performance.
Can Switch 2 do PS VR2 features?
No. VR is PS5 and PC only.
